Keith Lionel Brown Shares the Songs of His Heart with the World
Keith Lionel Brown, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was born in what was then, the Salisbury Hospital, in what was then, the little town of Salisbury, Maryland, at 10:17 pm on Friday evening, 17 October 1958. He is the second oldest child of the late John Wallace Brown and the late Frances Mae Harmon Brown. He has three other siblings – an older brother, Kenneth (Ken), and two younger sisters, Sharon and Patricia (Pat).
Keith was raised as a Baptist and attended a Baptist Bible college for a time where he was studying to become a Baptist minister. However, the Lord had other plans. On the evening of Tuesday, 10 March 1998, almost 22 years ago, in the city of Reykjavik, Iceland, he was baptized and became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was serving on active duty in the United States Navy in Keflavik, Iceland, at the time. His life has not been the same since.
Keith comes from a rich musical background. His mother, maternal grandmother, maternal great grandmother, and several aunts and cousins were all members of the gospel choir at the church that he attended growing up. The ladies were known as the Sacred Doves. There were also uncles and cousins that played musical instruments and sang in the various church groups like the Baptist Jubilees. Keith was even a member of the church’s youth choir during his teenage years. And, his youngest sister, Patricia, plays guitar, piano, organ, and drums, all by ear.
In 2019, at the age of 60, Keith was inspired to begin sharing bits and pieces of the story of his life through songs. He had never written a song, so he was at a loss as to where to begin. One morning in March 2019, as he awoke and prepared to read his morning devotionals and the scriptures, the words and the melody to a song began playing in his head. He immediately grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and started writing down the words as fast as he could. In about 45 minutes, what would become his first original song was written. He felt inspired to name it, “Song of My Heart.” Now that the song was written completely with the melody, and believing that the song was not given to him by chance, Keith began to wonder how he was going to get the song recorded, produced, and released so that others could hear it.
The Lord’s hand was in the entire process. Keith was blessed to find three friends in California who believed in the vision for the song and were willing to help him get it released to the world. He is forever grateful and indebted to the arranger of the song, Mary Hiett, the producer and transcriber of the song, Morgan Byers, and the vocalist who added a touch of Celtic flair to the song, Tiffany White. Working together with the “California Team,” the song was completed and released on all major music platforms, including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Napster, Deezer, SoundCloud, iHeart Radio, ReverbNation, and Amazon Music on 12 April 2019. The song was dedicated to the memory of Keith’s mother, father, and grandmother and also dedicated to the older of his two sisters, Sharon, who has been under constant doctors’ care since 12 April 2010. She is currently in a skilled nursing home in Arlington, Virginia.
“Song of My Heart” continues to bless the lives of people of various faiths, believes, cultures and walks of life. The lyrics of the song have also been translated into Spanish and French, with hopes of having the song recorded in those languages and translated into other languages soon.
Since the release of “Song of My Heart,” Keith has written two other songs – “Thy Word in My Heart” and “The Memories Live On” ( a loving tribute to his mother) – and is working on another song called “No More Regrets,” which is a loving tribute to his father. “The Memories Live On” was released on Valentine’s Day, Friday, 14 February 2020. The song is available on YouTube, SoundCloud, and Vimeo, and also on all major music platforms. Keith’s goal is to use these songs and maybe a couple of others for an EP that he hopes to record and call “Songs of My Heart: A Living Legacy.”
Keith Lionel Brown is an upcoming Latter-day Saint music artist who has a desire to share his God-given talents with as many people as he possibly can. He believes that music is the universal language and that through positive, uplifting, encouraging music he can make a small difference in the world as people listen to the songs of his heart.
